Jouluisessa värimaailmassa jämälaatikoiden pohjalta....yhdistelmä kuparia ja punaista korallia.

Ja sitten sitä sinistä. Hieman metallinhohtoiset helmiäiskolikot ja kiiltävä tumma metalli tuokoon pimeisiin syysiltoihin hieman sitten bling blingiä ;-)

Loppu lakolle

Ostoslakko rikkoutui toissa viikolla pitkän inspiraatio puutteen jälkeen. Shoppailu ei onneksi kuitenkaan lähtenyt lapasesta ja selvisin tästä luovuus blokista melko pienellä tilauksella. Sen tuloksena syntyi tämä puuterimainen rannekoru jossa on mielestäni varsin herkullinen värimaailma.

Lauantaisia

Käytin lauantaini tehokkaasti korunteon parissa. Tiedä mistä kaiken inspiraation tempaisin, sillä en ole pitkään aikaan tehnyt edes tilauksia. Hienoa, että samat vanhat materiaalit alkoivat vihdoinkin puhutella, sillä tuntuu jotenkin älyttömältä hamstrata kilokaupalla uusia helmiä nurkkiin, kun vanhatkin on vielä käyttämättä.

Makeanvedenhelmet on yhdistetty mustiin (gun metal värisiin) korunosiin, joka antaa mielestäni hieman modernimman ilmeen perinteisille valkoisille helmille. Kyseessä on siis kaksin kerroin ranteen ympärille kierrättävä rannekoru. Sekä helmissä että mustissa korunosissa on loistava kiilto, oli mukavaa yhdistää tätä kiiltävää, laadukasta tavaraa keskenään.

Vertailun vuoksi nappasin kuvan myös valkoista tausta vasten...

Kumpi teistä on kivempi? Itse taivun mustan taustan puoleen.

Midnight blues

Vihdoinkin jotain uutta esiteltävää. Vaikka kovasti odotinkin esitteleväni ensin servettien pidikkeitä, on ensin rannekorun vuoro. Varsinaisen pläjäys Swarovskia yötaivaan sinisenä. Tosin kuvien värit eivät ole ihan kohdallaan, niin kun ei taida olla mitkään muutkaan valokuvaus asetukseni. Rannekorun charmit 'imagine', 'create' ja 'play' viittaavat koruntekijän luomisprosessiin.

 Swarovskin pyöreitä helmiä ja pyöreitä, bicone ja sydän kristalleja. Seuraksi hopeaa.

Kulkunen

Hieman vanhenpaa helminauha tuotantoa. Silkkinauhaan sidotut herkullisen vihreät makeanvedenvelmet ja Bali-tyylinen sterling hopea riipus. Erikoisen riipuksesta tekee pieni kulkusmainen ääni...siinä voi sitten seurailla kulkusen ääntä ja tietää missä korun kantaja menee ;-) Kaveriksi tein korvakorut ja rannekorun.

 

 

Size matters

This bracelet was made to accompany 'mystic black' pearl necklace I made while back. Since I had run out of silver rondelles which I used in Platinum Ash bracelet I made an order to an European beads tore (all in aid to avoid lengthy delivery times and extra costs). It turns out I ordered the wrong size rondelles and ended up with something which is a millimeter wider and thicker than those originally used.  Some say size doesn't matter, but in this case I find this few millimeter difference somewhat troubling.

Tein taanoin Swarovskin 'mystic black' helmille seuraksi rannekorun. Koska Platinum Ash rannekorussa käyttämäni hopeiset välihelmet olivat päässeet loppumaan tilailin niitä lisää Eurooppalaisesta helmikaupasta välttääkseni pitkät toimitusajat ja tullimaksut. Kävikin sitten niin, etten tarkalleen muistanut aikaisemmin käyttämieni välihelmien kokoa ja päädyin ostamaan ns. väärää kokoa. Tässä tapauksessa koolla on väliä ja minua jäi hieman häiritsemään tuo muutaman millimetrin ero.

Tiny little beads

It's been a while, but I have made lot of jewelry out of seed beads. Mostly I use Miyuki delicas or Japanese seed beads, which are great due their even size and shape. Many of patterns are from Beading magazines or by other beaders around the world, which is great especially when I was learning different stitching techniques. First of the bracelets presented here is my own design. Very time consuming technique, which involved double threading through each bead to force the strength on the bracelet.

Olen tehnyt paljon helmitöitä siemenhelmistä, joskin viime kertaisesta pikkuhelmien näpräilystä on jo aikaa. Siemenhelmistä käytän eniten Miyuki delicoita ja Japanilaisia siemenhelmiä niiden tasaisen koon ja muodon vuoksi. Suurin osa kuvioista on alan lehdistä tai muilta helmeilijöiltä napattu, mikä on kätevää etenkin alkuvaiheessa kun vielä opettelee eri pistoja ja tekniikoita. Ensimmäinen rannekoru on kuitenkin alkuperäinen Castalia, elikkä itse suunnittelemani malli. Hyvin aikaa vievä tekniikka, koska lanka on käytetty kunkin helmen läpi kaksi kertaa, jotta saisin työhön vahvuutta.

Story behind the beads

 Double strand bracelet is made of amazonite 'pillows' and sterling silver. These amatonite beads have been gathering dust at the bottom of the cupboard and I noticed only just now small blue spots in the beads. Closer examination left me doubtful of the authenticity of these beads. I have real amazonite in my rock & mineral collection which I have smashed from the bedrock with my own two hands. These beads look nothing like it. Amazonite is essentially a microcline feldspar, which means I should be able to see a cleavage. Anyhows...what ever the beads are I made a bracelet of them.

Kaksirivinen rannekoru, joka on tehty amatsoniitti tyynyistä ja hopeasta. Amatsoniitit ovat pesineet laatikon pohjalla jo pidemmän aikaa, enkä ole aikaisemmin kiinnittänyt kivien laatuun enemmin huomiota. Läheisempi tarkastelu sai minut kuitenkin epäilemään kivien aitoutta, sillä pienet sinertävät täplät ja värin tasaisuus viittaavat tuotteen värjäykseen. Kivikokoelmastani löytyy omin pikku kätösin Etelä-Afrikassa hakkaamaani amatsoniittia, joka ei näytä pätkääkään tältä. Amazoniitiksi korumaailmassa kutsuttu kivi on mikroliini maasälpää, jossa pitäisi näkyä mineraalin lohkeavuus. Hmmp? Oli mitä oli, koru siitä kuitenkin syntyi. 

Something old, something blue...

Next set fits both categories - something old, something blue. I made them two years ago and forgot to post  photos of them. Charm bracelet was gift to a friend who had recently become a mother of a baby girl. I thought that the bracelet could be passed down from the mother to the daughter with a message to love, hope and dream in life. Charm bracelet is made of faceted aquamarine coins and sterling silver.

Seuraava setti sopii kumpaakin ylempänä esitettävään kategoriaan, setti on nimittäin vähintään kaksi vuotta sitten tehty. Tein rannekorun ystävälleni josta oli tullut pikkutytön äiti ja halusin antaa hänelle lahjan, jonka hän voisi joskus antaa tyttärelleen. Charmien viesti, rakasta, toivo ja uneksi, on hyvä ohje positiiviseen elämään. Rannekoru on tehty särmähiotuista akvamariini kolikoista ja hopeasta. 

Later on I added a necklace to the set with a joyful message. These earrings don't necessarily follow the team quite the way I imagined, but that's how they turned out.  

Myöhemmin lisäsin settiin kaulakorun, jossa positiivinen viesti jatkuu teemalla 'ilo'.Korvakoruista ei ehkä tullut ihan sitä mitä ajattelin, mutta värimaailma ja yksikertaisuus pitää ne edelleen teemalleen uskollisena. Hieman jäi harmittamaan, että kuvasin toisen korvakorun siltä puoleta missä tuo hopean 925 tunnus näkyy. Eipähän ainakaan jää epäselväksi että kyseessä on todellakin hopea.

Platinum ash

Regardless of the flight grounding volcanic ash situation both of my bead orders arrived this week. This was awesome news as I'd been waiting to see Swarovski's platinum pearls in real life - and let me tell you they are so adorable.  I kept the design simple just added some plain sterling silver spacer beads and simple heart charms. Voila! Classic piece which matches many outfits. Such a cute little combo that I must try this in different colours...new orders :-)

Vulkaanisesta tuhkasta ja siitä johtuneesta lentokiellosta huolimatta kummatkin lätäkön takaa tilaamani helmipaketit saapuivat tällä viikolla. Olinkin jo odotellut Swarovskin platinum-värisiä helmiä ja ihastuin helmien väriin enemmän kuin osasin odottaa. Yhdistelin Swaron helmet samassa tilauksessa saapuneiden hopeisten välihelmien kanssa. Tulos on klassinen ja sopii monen asusteen kanssa. Tämä oli mielestäni sen verran onnistunut yhdistelmä, että Swarovskin isoja helmiä, hopeaisia välihelmiä ja charmeja lähtee tilaukseen saman tien.

Woodie

New job is keeping my really busy and I haven't got as much time to spend on jewelry. I took some photos of my latest pieces, but they are so bad that even vigorous editing won't help. Therefore it will be photos from the archive. This time a collection of jewelry with wooden beads.

Olen hiljattain aloittanut uudessa työpaikassa ja sen on pitänyt minut melko kiireisenä, eikä aikaa ole jäänyt helmeilyyn. Otin valokuvia uusimmista tuotoksistani, mutta nyt selatessani ne läpi totesin niiden olevan täysin esittelykelvottomia. Siksipä laitankin tänne arkiston helmiä....koruja joissa olen käyttänyt puuhelmiä.

Some of these are quite old (old being time measured from the start of my hobby) and the pictures are not necessary the best either. Still I enjoy looking back in time and discovering what inspired me then.

Jotkut näistä kuvista on vuodelta miekka ja kirves (siis helmeily harrastukseni suhteen), eikä kuvan laatukaan ole aina paras mahdollinen. On kuitenkin kiva katsella ajassa takaisinpäin ja miettiä mikä kaikki silloin loikaan kyseisen inspiraation.

True blue

Shops are full of navy blues, light denims and summery colours. I don't normally do pastel, but I couldn't resist having something matching for the season. Large glass pearls, metal spacers and cotton cord. So simple.

Kaupat on täynnä keväisiä kuoseja, merimiestyyliä ja vaaleita farkkuja. En yleensä pidä pastelleista väreistä, mutta en voinut vastustaa näitä helmiä sopivat tämän kevään väreihin. Isoja lasihelmiä, metalli välihelmiä ja puuvillanyöriä. Hyvin yksinkertaista.

Bleeding fingers...

and broken nails. I am so out of practice as it took me good 4 to 5 hours to complete this bracelet, but it was so worth it. This voluminous bracelet is made of sterling silver and freshwater pearls and has already been boxed and wrapped in Christmas paper.

Mr Grey

Since the snow has gone there seems to be no light outside, not even during the day - it's all grey. Streetlights reflecting from the wet asphalt give a glimmer of sliver amongts all the grey. Time to use these twist beads which I have been sitting on for way too long.

Another brick on the wall

Now that I have finally returned home and am surrounded by my beading goodies, I find myself either too busy or uninspired to be creative. Looking at all the amazing autumn inspired jewellery presented by other beading junkies I cannot help feeling a little defeated. Perhaps tomorrow I will reserve some quality time with just me and the beads, but then again I will probably end up going to Ikea.

Regardless of what I end up doing tomorrow, today I will share one of my favourite pieces of sudden creativeness -'brick wall'. Rarely have I been so utterly pleased with myself as I was with this one. Mostly because it was my original idea (not that no one else has ever done, just that I haven't seen any before) of combining a seed bead technique for these rather sizeable 8x8 mm squares. Red squares are beautiful red coral with a slightly textured finish, whereas the shiny black onyx squares have an alltogether different surface.

I created the 'chessboard-like' surface by brick-stiching the squares to each other using colourless beading wire. Finding the right type of a needle was the key for the success of this project. I used a large eyed beading needle which was flexible enough not to break if bended. At each end I attached a Bali-style silver 3-way divider and a clasp.

Not the easiest project I have done, but certainly one of the most satisfying to complete :-)

Best of Bangles

I adore chunky bracelets. They are a snazzy little way to liven up an outfit, easy to slip on (how many can honestly say that bracelets with clasps willl slip on around your wrist in a matter of seconds?) and will not damage your new cardigan by ripping it to threads. Between gold and silver I've always been leaning towards the platinum look, but I find this autumn's black & gold combinations surprisinly appealing. I have added a little bit of both colours on my best of bangles selection and concentrated more on the texture. Here are some of the beauties I would like to take home. And given my artistic capabilities even try to make myself.

Stars are shining right above you...

If I'd get to pick one shape that pleases my eye the most it would have to be a star. One could say they bring me good luck - like a talisman. One of my favourite necklaces is this inexpensive starry piece from Express I bought on my trip to the US.

It really inspired me to finally use the silver alphabet beads I have been hoarding for way too long. Somehow I just hadn't found the right beads to go with them. The gunmetal chain and dark blue/purple stars of the necklace transferred into Swarovski tanzanite rondelles and faceted smoky quartz rondelles.

Someone came up with an eye pleasing colour combination - I guess there is no crime in stealing it? ;-)

New wave of inspiration

I started my beading hobby four years ago and have acquired quite a gallery of photos. I will return to the early days of my beading hobby at another time, as I have finally some new pieces which I am eager to share.

This bright necklace was my first case if inspiration after a long hiatus in beading. I have teamed up fuchsia pink mother-of-pearl oval donuts and flat rounded silver foil beads with antique copper chains, links and charms. The charms were hand picked from a small Turkish bead shops last October.

I wanted a chunky bracelet in earthy colours to join my large collection of brass necklaces. 10 to 14 mm glass beads in bronze, toffee and brown colours are balanced with brass beads and bead caps. I think I will get lot of use out of this one.
