In the honor of spring I present these spring green faceted peridotite and sterling silver earrings. Idea for these earrings is by no means originally mine, I have seen very similar earrings for example in Helmetti blog.

Vihdoinkin on kevät! Kevään kunniaksi keväänvihreät hopeiset korvakorut. Helmet ovat fasettihioittuja peridotiittejä, joita olet hillonnut kaapissa jo aivan liian kauan. Korun idea ei ole mitenkään alkuperäinen vaan olen nähnyt vastaavan tapaiset korvakorut myös esimerkiksi Helmetti blogissa.

Indian elephant

I finally had time to complete a India inspired necklace made of silver foil beads I purchased from Sinelli. I knew straight away when I saw these what I was going to make them. I love the vibrant golden red-orange colour of these beads and thought they would great together with copper. Add couple of elephant charms and the inspiration was complete - Indian inspired bohemian necklace.

Muutama ylimääräinen vapaapäivä ja surkea harmaa taivas tuhkusateineen antaa mukavasti aikaa valmistella keskenjääneet projektit. Sain vihdoin valmiiksi kaulakorun Sinnellistä ostamista hopeafolio helmistä. Tiesin heti helmet nähtyäni mitä niistä aikoisin tehdä. Rakastan helmien kullanhotoisen puna-oranssia väriä, joka sopii kivasti yhteen kuparin kanssa. Lisää muutama elefantti riipus ja idea on valmis - Intialaisia vaikutteita kantava boheemi kaulakoru.

L-shapes and MDF

I'm planning a compact, functional and stylish work space solution for my one bedroom apartment. I have decided to dedicate the bedroom for rest and set the work space in my open plan living/dining room. I wish to blend the work aspect into rest of interior design, so traditional computer desk is out of question. Rest of the furniture in my living room is white, besides the black sofa, which is why I have settled on black or white work surface.

Yritän ideoida kaksiooni pientä, toimivaa ja tyylikästä työpiste ratkaisua. Olen päättänyt pyhittää makuuhuoneen levolle ja sijoittaa työpisteen avoimeen olo-ja ruokailuhuone tilaan. En etsi perinteistä tietokonepöytä ratkaisua vaan haluan soluttaa työpisteen muuhun sisustukseen. Olohuoneen muut kalusteet ovat lähinnä valkoista, mustaa sohvaa lukuunottamatta, joten olen päätynyt joko kokonaan valkoiseen tai mustaan työtasoon.

Ligne-Roset's white desk and Ikea's black desk for two are ideal in terms of design, but are just too large for this space. Valanti's 'Lähellä'-line's desk is delightfully simple and available in different sizes, making it ideal purchase. Valanti's desk also has two drawers which provide additional storage. Muurame's glossy white L-shaped surface is a classic piece which is also available in different sizes. On the other hand, I could have mydesk made to order guaranteeing a perfect  fit.  Since I'm not much of a carpenter I have no idea if it is even possible to purchase gloss painted slabs of wood and construct one - but one can always plan. Design program T.i.l.a. on the Finnish MTV3 channel (not the music television!) had a great idea of using only the L-shaped side table of the Ikea's 'Jonas'-desk, thus achieving perfectly proportional work area solution for a smaller space.

Ligne-Rosetin valkoinen työpöytä kaapistolla sekä Ikean korkeakiiltoinen työpöytä kahdelle ovat tyyllilisesti kohdallaan, mutta liian isoja kyseiseen tilaan. Valantin 'Lähellä'-sarjan työpöytä on ihastuttavan yksinkertainen ja saatavilla eri kokoisina. Työpöydän vetolaatikoille löytyisi myös varmasti käyttöä. Muuramen korkeakiiltoinen valkoinen L-taso klassikko on myös saatavana eri kokoisina, joista tuo kapeampi malli sopisi mukavasti olohuoneeseeni. Jäin tässä pohtimaan, että työtason voisi myös teettää omien mittojen mukaan ja saada täten varmasti oman asuntoon sopivan ratkaisu. Kirvesmiehen tietotaitoni ovat olemattomat enkä pikaisella surffauksella kyennyt selvittämään voiko korkeakiiltomaalilla maalattua täyspuu tai MDF-levyä ostaa jostain metri tavarana. Ainahan voi kuitenkin suunnitella. MTV3:n T.i.l.a. ohjelmassa käytettiin Ikean Jonas työpöydästä ainoastaan L-muotoinen sivutaso, jolla ratkaistiin fiksusti pienemmän tilan työtilavaatimukset. Ei hassumpi ratkaisu.

Woodie

New job is keeping my really busy and I haven't got as much time to spend on jewelry. I took some photos of my latest pieces, but they are so bad that even vigorous editing won't help. Therefore it will be photos from the archive. This time a collection of jewelry with wooden beads.

Olen hiljattain aloittanut uudessa työpaikassa ja sen on pitänyt minut melko kiireisenä, eikä aikaa ole jäänyt helmeilyyn. Otin valokuvia uusimmista tuotoksistani, mutta nyt selatessani ne läpi totesin niiden olevan täysin esittelykelvottomia. Siksipä laitankin tänne arkiston helmiä....koruja joissa olen käyttänyt puuhelmiä.

Some of these are quite old (old being time measured from the start of my hobby) and the pictures are not necessary the best either. Still I enjoy looking back in time and discovering what inspired me then.

Jotkut näistä kuvista on vuodelta miekka ja kirves (siis helmeily harrastukseni suhteen), eikä kuvan laatukaan ole aina paras mahdollinen. On kuitenkin kiva katsella ajassa takaisinpäin ja miettiä mikä kaikki silloin loikaan kyseisen inspiraation.

True blue

Shops are full of navy blues, light denims and summery colours. I don't normally do pastel, but I couldn't resist having something matching for the season. Large glass pearls, metal spacers and cotton cord. So simple.

Kaupat on täynnä keväisiä kuoseja, merimiestyyliä ja vaaleita farkkuja. En yleensä pidä pastelleista väreistä, mutta en voinut vastustaa näitä helmiä sopivat tämän kevään väreihin. Isoja lasihelmiä, metalli välihelmiä ja puuvillanyöriä. Hyvin yksinkertaista.

Ei panta kiristä päätä...

I love hair bands (Alice bands), but I get horrible headache from wearing a normal ridgid (metallic, plastic, padded or not - doesn't matter) head band. Somehow the part of my skull behind my ears is really sensitive to tension and can kick start a mother of headaches in a mere couple of hours of wearing a head band. I'm superpleased of the current trend of soft fabric headbands. I picked up couple of really cute ones few days ago - aren't they cute?

Pidän hiuspannoista tosi paljon, mutta saan kamalan pääsäryn tavallisista 'kovista' (muoviset, metalliset, pehmustetut ja pehmustamattomat) hiuspannoista. Jostain syystä panta todellakin kiristää päätä ja vain parin tunnin hiuspannan pito saa aikaan järkyttävän jyskytyksen ohimossa. Olen siis suunnattoman onnellinen jo jonkin aikaa vallitsevasta pehmeiden kangaisten kuminauhahiuspantojen trendistä. Viime ostosretkejä tarttui muutama söpöläinen mukaan.

Sinelli @ Helsinki

Yesterday I dropped in at Sinelli store in Helsinki (at Yrjönkatu 34). I have not been able to place an internet order since, well forever, and thought I might do better in an actual shop. I left with some glass beads and bulk chain. From some comments in Helmetti forum I knew not to expect a great deal of fine gemstones and precious metal findings. Sinelli had a great selection of glass, acrylic, wood, fabric and bone beads and base metal findings. Quality of the few gemstones and freshwater pearls weren't really my style or standard I'm used to, but there is some available. Often Finnish craft shops sell only ready packaged beads and assortments, so I was really pleased that Sinelli had a large selection of loose beads.

Eilen piipahdin Sinelli kaupassa Helsingissä (Yrjönkatu 34 - aivan Kampin ja Forumin vieressä). En ole saanut tehtyä tilausta nettikaupasta ikuisuuksiin, jonka vuoksi päätin kokeilla onneani ihan peruskunnon kivajalkaliikkeessä. Ostosretkestä jäi käteeni muutamia lasihelmiä ja hieman metri ketjua. Helmetissä lukemieni kommenttien perusteella tiesin olla odottamatta mitään lajaa ja/tai erikoista kivihelmi ja jalometalliosa kokoelmaa. Sinellissä on hieno kokoelma lasi, -akrylli, -puu, -kangas ja luuhelmiä sekä metallisia osia. Tarjolla olleiden kivi-ja makeanvedenhelmien laatu eikä tyyli juuri miellyttänyt minua. Usein suomalaiset käsityöpuodit myyvät ainoastaan valmiiksi pussitettuja helmipakkauksia ja helmisekoituksia, joten olin todella tyytyväinen Sinellin laajaan irtohelmivalikoimaan.

Odotan innolla elokuva iltaa Liisa Ihmemaassa parissa, jonka jälkeen suuntaan jatkamaan iltaa kavereiden kesken. Toivottavasti elokuva vastaa odotuksiani. Muistan hatarasti lapsuudesta elokuvan olleen tosi kiehtova. Nauttikaan viikonlopustanne!

Fabrico

I've had an inspiration of combining fabric into my jewelry since I came across this black lace bow necklace in Ireland. In the absence of suitable lace I picked up some see through ribbon yesterday in  an attempt to combine it with glass pearls. The idea behind the necklace is to double up the ribbon and sew it into a tube. Pearls are inserted into the tube and are held in place by knotting the ribbon tube after each pearl. Relatively simple technique except I still need to figure out what type end findings to use. My fingers are itching to get going already. However, I do not own a sewing machine. I guess I could sew this by hand, but it will be extremely time consuming not to talk perhaps little unreliable. 

Olen halunnut toteuttaa kaulakorun, jossa yhdistelen kangasta ja helmiä. Inspiraation koruun sain aikoinaan Irlannista hankkimastani pitsi rusetti kaulakorusta. Koska en ole vieläkään löytänyt sopivaa pitsiä, nappasin eilen Askarellista läpikuultavaa lahjanauhaa. Ideana olisi puolittaa nauha ja ommella siitä pitkulainen tuubi. Helmet pujotellaan yksitellen tuubin sisään, joka solmutetaan kunkin helmen jälkeen. Tämä erottelee helmet toisistaan ja pitää ne omalla paikallaan.  Vielä pitäisi keksiä minkälainen korunosa toimisi parhaiten luultavasti melko paksuhkon nauhatuubin päässä. En millään malttaisi enää hillota helmiä kaapissa, mutta en omista ompelukonetta ja ajatus käsinompelusta ei juuri innosta. Luulen, että tarpeeksi tiivin tikkauksen aikaansaamiseksi menisi ikuisuus.

Tiger

These lampwork glass beads have been haunting my bead supply boxes forever. I ordered them ages ago expecting them to be much smaller and different colour. Since they didn't quite fit the bill of what I was planning they have laid abandoned at the back of the cupboard. I also used swarovski crystals and old orange wooden beads inherited from my mum. I first struggled to attach the beads in place on the 2 mm thick cotton cord until I remembered some black coloured metal wire leftovers I had. 

Bold colour combination reminds me of a tiger ....rraarrr!!! - hence the name

Birthday bliss in Tallinn

Last week I travelled to Tallinn, Estonia for two days of great company, relaxation, pampering and bubbly. This trip was birthday gift including travel, luxurious accommodation and a choice of spa treatment. Since the freezing temperatures and frosty wind didn't encourage for timely outdoor activities we decided to take the full benefit of the luxurious courtyard suite at Merchant House Hotel situated in the heart of Tallinn's old town. 

I had heard lot of good things about this small boutique hotel and had wanted to stay here for the longesttime. It was well worth it - the hotel has a rustic old time charm (as you can see), service is great and the suite is well worth the money. 57m2 of beautifully designed space with a sitting room area, sauna and a log fire., all for €155 for a night.  I cannot describe how amazing it was to warm frostbitten fingers and toes in front of the fire whilst sipping some champagne.

Next morning I enjoyed a sea salt full body scrub and massage to smooth that dried up winter skin. After 90 minutes of relaxing bliss my skin felt like baby's bottom and mine and body rejuvenated. Besides some nice red wine I did no shopping at all. I did found though a lovely black leather handbag in -30% sale which I eventually received as a birthday gift.
